What is the difference between semi-formal and formal wear?
I am attending the National Youth Science Camp and need 3 dress outfits for when we travel to Washington DC. One is semi-formal, the other two are formal (but not prom dresses). What's the diff?

- Tie or no tie? Evening gown or summer dress?
- The person wearing it.
- For men semi-formal would be slacks, shirt, tie, and jacket (maybe a suit). Formal for a man would be a tux. For ladies semi-formail is a knee-length dress. Formal dress would be a full length dress.
- Semi formal is particially casual. Meaning you can get away with khakis. But for formal definately a dress or two piece suit (anything fancy).
- take it like this formal: long dress hair in an updo stilleto heels expensive dress limo semi formal: knee length dress hair down wavy/straight wedges, kitten heels reasonable cost dress your moms minivan
- Semi-Formal would be a cute long skirt with a trendy top that will catch peoples eyes. Formal is a a typical sum-dress or something that classy but not to formal like you said in a prom!
- semi-formal clothes don't have any strict rules.. u usually wear a skirt/slacks with a nice top. for formal wear, u usually wear a little black dress or something to that extent.
