whats to formal to wear when attending a university graduation?

i'm going to my brother's university graduation, and i have a prom-ish dress thats about knee length. it doesn't have alot of decorations on it though, just a little bit of gem lining around the top of the skirt part. its also his school colors. is it too formal to wear the a gradation? i was just planning to wear flats with it.

1. I think it depends on where he went, and where the ceremony is being held.
2. It doesn't sound like it, but you should probably include a link to a picture of a similar dress. just don't wear a wedding dress and you should be good.
