Whats to formal to wear when attending a university graduation?
Whats to formal to wear when attending a university graduation? i'm going to my brother's university graduation, and i have a prom-ish dress thats about knee length. it doesn't have alot of decorations on it though, just a little bit of gem lining around the top of the skirt part. its also his school colors. is it too formal to wear the a gradation? i was just planning to wear flats with it.

- if you'd wear it to church then it's a go. if it's too simple or too formal for church, it's a no.
- Yeah.
- I wouldn't wear a prom-ish dress...it might a little too formal. I would wear a nice spring dress or a nice knee-length skirt with a cute blouse.
- It sounds like a very nice dress, but prom and graduation are two seperate things. Prom is very formal, but it is a different type of formal. For prom you get to go all out, however for graduation you car expected to be more conserved and classy. The most casual outfit would be a skirt and shirt type of outfit. A light colored or floral print skirt to the knee with dressy sandals or heels would be fine. Topped with a white or light colored shirt with some kind of sleeve. At any graduation, a light colored spring or summer dress would be appropriate. Something to the knee and with with sleeves that are no longer then short sleeves. A small, light sweater can be worn if you want to have a more conservative look , too. This should really be worn with a heel, but a nice sandal could work, also. The most formal look you should go for would be a 'little black dress' type of outfit. It could be another color of course, but just a simple style that looks classic. This can be wore with a strappy heel or simple pumps. Accessories for these outfits should be kept to a minimum. A small pair of hoop or stud earrings can be worn, along with a single necklace. This could be a pendent type necklace, a sting of pearls, or some unusual chunky necklace that you adore. A watch or single braclet is acceptable along with one basic ring. However try to keep jewrly down to a minimum with only two pieces. If you deside to wear make up keep it basic. Foundation, mascara (only if you need it), brown eyeliner, and neutral eyeshadow is all you should need. Congradulations to your brother and good luck to you!
