- The Bolo tie. Look at the Montana Governor.
- chck with e-bay
- power colors: red, black...etc etc
- www.bluefly.com has name brand clothing for discounted prices. also might want to check out www.thomaspink.co.uk for shirts and ties as for what a guy should wear...that depends on wether or not it is a business meeting or a black tie dinner. you can read up on what is in style by picking up a copy of QG, Esquire, Details, or any other mens magazine.
- As to your specific question about tie widths: Wear the width that suits your age, weight and the suit you're pairing it with. For example, a wide tie would look out-of-synch with a suit that had skinny lapels, and vice versa. An older man may look a little "mutton-dressed-as-lamb" if he wears a Thom Brown suit with short pants and a skinny tie. Yet a young creative, such as an art director or writer, could wear this and look great. Another consideration is the collar on the shirt. A widely-spread collar generally calls for a wider tie to balance out the space created by the spread. While a point collar can go either way, but generally suits a thinner tie. I personally like a 3-3.5" tie right now. It isn't extremely wide or narrow and can be kept for a long time. I feel a very narrow tie may look dated in a few years. Hermés has been making their ties about 3.5" for a long time without changing them very much. As far as suits go: If you're just starting out, purchase a classic navy blue or charcoal two-button model that is not double-breasted and doesn't have any stripes or other fancy flourishes. Keep it simple. You should also invest in some gray trousers, tan trousers, a navy blazer, some fine-gauge knit vests or sweaters, and at least two pairs of good-quality shoes. You should alternate the shoes. Never wearing the same pair two days in a row. There is a lot more to learn about dressing for business. I can suggest a good book to pick up. It's called Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion by Alan Flusser. Good luck in your pursuit.
