What type of formal wear should be worn to an opera?

I am going to an opera with my fiancee, a friend and his wife. I know operas are formal. I already have a tuxedo with a gold tie and vest that I was going to wear but, should I get a white tie?

2. When they call it "black tie," that's not figurative language. Get a black bow tie. Pre-tied does not count. Gold accessories suggest a magic show to me.
