How should a woman dress to a formal wedding?

Is a black suit acceptable? Because my suit is all black, and I heard it was bad luck.

1. Black suit on a woman for a formal wedding? Sounds more suited for a funeral.... Try a dress, moreso on the formal/cocktail side of things. If you are more conservative, which it sounds like maybe try for a skirt combination, but either way, try to stay away from black. Try a navy blue if you're more comfortable in darker colors

4. I don't think you should wear an all black suit to any kind of wedding. Perhaps a navy blue, like someone has said, or maybe a dark red. Good luck!
5. Black used to be considered inappropriate, but in today's world I've seen it done several times, especially on a more formal occasion. If the family is more traditional or maybe superstitious you might consider getting something else, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
6. I don't think you should wear all black. I also would tend away from a suit and rather wear a dress to a formal wedding too.
7. Can you add some colour to it with a nice shirt and shoes or something? A nice scarf maybe? I would definately still not wear ALL black to a wedding so if you can add colour it should be fine. (Just remember that traditionally a 'formal' dress code means a floor length gown... just keep that in mind when deciding what to wear!) Suits are ok these days - as long as it is still formal. (And try not to look like you are going to work in it!)
8. Wearing black to a formal, evening (after 6 PM) wedding is perfectly fine - I'm in a wedding this summer and even our bridesmaid dresses are black. A black suit, though, does sound a little matronly and businesslike. Perhaps you can wear the bottom of the suit with a dressy, summer-appropriate top in a bright color, and leave the jacket at home. Or a cocktail dress, any color, would be perfect.
9. Black is not bad luck - it is very sophisticated looking. Especially a nice flow-y feminine suit for a formal evening wedding with some lovely jewelry or a beautiful colorful blouse or scarf - something to brighten it up - shiny shoes - you get the picture.
