Plus size ladies............ I just need to vent!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Hello everyone! I just need to vent. I'm getting married in September and I still do not have a dress. The problem is I'm a size 22 but my bust is HUGE and for that reason I can not fit into a wedding dress. I luv my friend and she is a size 34 pants and she went and fit a dress size 26 with no problem, but she is also pear shape. You ladies know wedding dresing run small especially up top. I can't even get a 26 sized up! I'm so stressed, I have already lost 25lbs. I work out 4-5 days a week. I know I will always be plus size "Size Sexy"! That is not the issue I luv having curves! It's just that I'm so depressed and not feeling sexy, pretty or anything. The weight will not come off. I have even considered cancelling the wedding and going to the JOP and wear a pants suit. I've put so much money and time into this wedding and for it to fall apart because I don't have a dress is killing me. Thanks for listening! I really just needed to vent! IamMARE- I hear you it seems like my boobs have gotten bigger too. I think it's from doing the chest strenght training it builts mulscue(sp?) MissLiss- Thanks your a doll! Everyone Thanks for your ideas! I will start looking to find someone to hopefully make a gown for me.

- did you try a davidsbridal? they have those sizes and i've even seen a few girls trying on those sizes and they looked beautiful. goodluck to you. if you have a davidsbridal i would definitely try that. or even go on their site. they have a david's women collection specifically for bigger sizes. goodluck and dont let that ruin your wedding day. you'll fidn something. best wishes.
- Just go to a seamstress, pick a pattern, get measured and have her make you a dress. Or buy a much larger dress and have the waist and hips taken in.
- Check out eBay. There are people that will make a dress for you to your measurements (huge bust and all). I have ordered mine from gianinarbridal They have a return policy and were recommended by others. You will pay more for being plus sized, but they can custom make a dress for you.
- Well focus on the fact that you have someone who loves you just the way you are. If you can't find a traditional dress go with your own style! The most important part of the wedding would be the two people getting married and not the ceremony. Some people go their whole life without knowing love, be thankful you are not one of them. You will look beautiful to him no matter what you are in. ; )
- aw i hate wedding dresses! i feel ya. don't worry though, your guy loves you so don't worry about the number on the tag! congrats
- I'm also quite large on top (and not skinny anywhere else). Surely there is a dress out there for you! I started my search at David's bridal--what a joke. They may be great if you're a size 6, but if you aren't, nevermind! I went to a really good bridal boutique, and they were able to fit me with a few different styles. The dress I ended up bying, though, was extensively altered to accomodate me. My dress was originally backless, and I really needed to wear a regular bra, so they built a back into my dress. Any good seamstress can alter a gown to accomodate your needs! Don't give up! Your dream dress is out there, I promise!
- Sorry, you will not have any luck. The reason they don't have dresses for plus sized women is because so few ever find love. Sorry, but men just don't like your type.
- I would search for a bridal dress that is 2 pieces. I know that you can go online (David's Bridal) and pick out your top and a different bottom for bridesmaids so maybe that is an option. Think about the above statement and look at the bridesmaid pieces in WHITE or IVORY...it's actually what I ended up doing for my wedding...I tried on dress after dress and when the bridesmaid dress arrived in ivory with the beaded halter, no one knew the wiser...you have options honey...don't fret!
- I fully understand your pain! I'm the exact same way! I'm actually a little smaller than you, but had to order a size 26 dress, and I can't zip it up over the boobs! I'm shy by about 1/2 inch. I have an apt. with my seamstress, and I hope she can do something for me! I don't know what I'm going to do if I can't wear this gown. I've already lost about 40 lbs in the past year, but my boobs have gotten bigger! What's up with that!?!?!? This is my gown - I really hope I can get into it! http://davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=1885&prodgroup=10
- I am sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble finding a wedding dress that you like and that fits you in the bust. I wish I had more of a bust...so be thankful for that :) Why don't you have the dress made? I know that it sounds like it would cost a lot of money, but my friend actually got hers done for much cheaper than the selections that she found (she was also a plus size). Get your yellow pages and look for a seamstress. Start calling around and tell them your situation. They may say to buy a dress and they can alter it; or they may say that they will be able to custom make it for you. Just be sure to check around to a lot of places. It can be done; so don't give up. Keep your wedding date...I think you'll be sorry if you cancel it. If you don't mind me asking, what are your measurements? Maybe if you posted them on another question someone might be able to find a dress or point you in the right direction. It never hurts to try...just don't give up! I used to be a size 20; I bought my wedding dress in a size 10 and she had to alter it to a smaller size...so, you can do it! :)
- Sucks. While the plus sized industry is reaching into lingerie and clothing, still lacks greatly in the wedding department. I have a large bust line myself. I know I'm going to run into the same issue if I go with a traditional wedding dress. If you know a seamstress or have someone who's good with a sewing machine, and creating the dress you want by the using a pattern or having it crafted specifically for your body type.
- I'm sorry your having so much trouble. As a previous plus size (as recently as Sept) I know how difficult finding regular clothes are, I couldn't imagine trying to find the perfect dress. I also was very top heavy and hardly ever could find a dress cause of it. I know your frustrated but there IS a perfect dress for you. What kind of tops are you trying on? Strapless and halter can sometimes not be the most flattering with big busted beauties. Would you consider a custom dress? Maybe you need to buy one thats to big on the bottom and have it altered???? Anyways I hope you can find something and hope venting helped! Congrats on the weightloss, on loving your curves and on the wedding!
- I am a size 2 but I actually had a similar problem, my breast are naturally a bit larger so I would have had to order a 10-12 in the dress that I liked. When speaking to the seamstress they assured me they simply would not take it in that much because of the effect it would have on the dress. So instead I searched for a dress I loved and had it custom made for me , I won't lie, it's really important to me to have a dress I felt comfortable in on my wedding day. Good luck, I am sure you will find it eventually. EDIT: I don't really understand the thumbs down.
- Sweete i feel your pain. the hardes thing in my wedding plainning was the wedding dress. i pulled my hair out trying to find one. Good luck with your search.
- I would call a wedding shop or a wedding consultant and see what places or people in your area can make you a dress..I know a lady that made dresses for people..You can keep the material simple and then it will be custom to you and look nice! So ditch the already made dresses and find someone to make a simple elegant one for you!
- If you can fit into the bottoms of the dresses, perhaps you can have the dress back turned into a corset back. They'll add a modesty panel and then take out the zipper or button and make it a corset. A good seamstress should be able to do this for you and it should add a few sizes up top, though I am not sure how much it would cost.
- Don't worry about the size on the label. My bust is disproportionately larger than the rest of me, too. And, wedding and formal dresses run smaller. I usually wear a size 16, and was dismayed to find that I had to order a dress in size 3X to fit on top. But, then I realized that nobody but me and the seamstress taking the rest of it in will ever know the size on the label. The dress looks fabulous on me (makes me look smaller than usual), so I stopped stressing about the number on the label. Find something that fits and feels beautiful on, and don't worry about the tag.
- How about a bridesmaid dress? They come in white and ivory and a wider array of sizes than wedding dresses. Also, bridesmaid dresses are very beautiful but they are a little simpler than wedding dresses so that alterations are easier and less expensive. My cousin was in a very similar position as you. She's a size 18 (22 in bridal gowns), has humongous "ladies", but she's only 5'3". She looked everywhere but she couldn't find a bridal dress that came close to fitting and she couldn't afford to have a dress made for her. She gave up looking at wedding dresses and started looking at bridesmaid dresses! She found a gorgeous ivory bridesmaid dress made by After Six in a size 22 that only needed minor alterations. She opted for a tea length dress, because of the height issue, but she says there were plenty of full length options too. Hope this helps!
- First of all congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I don't have any answers for you besides what is already said. I just want to say don't settle for the JOP if that is not what you want to do (and it sounds like it's not). Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something absolutely gorgeous! Good luck!
- The dress I am getting is online at www.weddingdressonlinestore.com. They have gown for $99. They also custom make dresses for you all you have to do is send them a picture and they will make a similar dress for you. And on the guestbook page of that website their is a plus size women who had her dress made from them. They would just suggest you have a professional measure you then send the measurements to them. For your fiance tuxedos and suit try www.sundaysverybest.com suit for $79.
- Do you like wedding dresses with a lace-up back? I sell wedding dresses online and I love lace-up back closure than zip-ups because they work wonders to almost all body types. You can adjust the tie the way you want it. Most of the time, there are no alterations needed at the top, only hemming if needed. Some brides don't like this style but if you do, you can try one. Good Luck!
- I was a 28/30. NOW Im a 12/14. I worked out just like you. I found on my wedding day. I couldn't get a dress to over of my huge rack or my shoulders. I ended buying the cutest jacket and matching skirt off of the rack at J.C. Penney for $40.00 and having it alterted for $25.00. But when I married my sweetie I was a 24/26. My best advice if your that large busted is to have a simple gown made. Good luck.
- I would just go with having one custom made if I were you, that way everything is going to fit right, in the right places. Don't get down about it, just look for your next option and remember when that day comes you'll forget all about the trouble it was getting there. Good Luck!
- You still have time to go to a dress maker and get a dress made that will fit you perfectly! I designed and made my own dress because I'm busty on top and was going through perimenopause and had to have a dress made out of natural fiber so I wouldn't sweat to death and be down to my under things by the time I got up the aisle. It was a lot cheaper, I got a dress that fit perfectly and got the dress I really wanted. I would locate a dressmaker that could help you make your dress or make it for you.
- Oh, it's a justified venting! I'm a BBW, too, and thought for sure before I went gown shopping that I'd have to have something made, or just wear something relatively unattractive. However, it was just a matter of going into the right bridal shop at the right time I suppose - next biggest city close to where I was living, little bridal boutique. There was a lovely, very traditional gown - long sleeves, scoop neck, basque waist, cathedral train - beautiful embellishments, whole thing overwhelmed me, much more beautiful than I thought I could ever wear! It was a 24, bigger than I usually wore (just ignore the darned tags) - but the zip wouldn't zip. I started crying. Luckily, the smart saleslady went and got the seamstress from the back who totally reassured me this was no problem at all - she could put inserts under each arm, enough so the bodice could zip comfortably. AND she did, and it was AMAZING - you could barely tell she added material, the inserts were a long v-shape tapering down from each underarm. My gown was heavy bridal satin, and the fabric for the inserts was a perfect match, with the sewing practically invisible. The alterations cost less than $100. The gown itself was just under 800. I wish you all the best, and hope you find something which makes you sparkle as the beautiful woman you are!
