Women Wedding Suits

What do I wear to sing at a church wedding?

I'm 16 and I've been asked by my choirmaster to sing as part of a small chorus with some older ladies and men for a wedding in a cathedral. I'm guessing it will be very traditional and I don't want to look disrespectful. I also don't want to stand out from the other ladies in the choir, so I could wear black, but in a church this might look like funeral dress. :\ He told me "The gents are wearing lounge suits with white shirt and smart tie, and ladies are wearing something of equal smartness." What is the female equivalent of a lounge suit? What kind of colour? Are smart wedges or pumps appropriate? Any ideas appreciated :) Oh and calling them would be a great idea, but I can't because 2 of them I don't know and the other one is my teacher, which would be a bit odd...

  1. Congrats!! You must have a great voice. Maybe you could call some of the ladies in the choir and ask them what they plan to wear and explain that you don't want to stand out.
  2. although black is a smart looking color for an outfit, i think you are right about the whole funreal thing. maybe a light color, like a yellow dress, or a pink skirt or blouse ? :) also i agree with the answer above. ask your mom or ask another lady in the choir so at least youll have an idea
  3. You really should call and find out the drill. Why not call your teacher? You may all be asked to don choir robes from the church so you look the same for the ceremony. If you can't obtain local advice, I would suggest a dress (frock) of a solid color, not too bright. The fit should be rather loose, the length should be below the knee, and the sleeves and neckline modest. Your shoes should be leather, but can be flats or low wedges – you'll need to be comfortable while you're standing to sing. This sounds like it will be a lovely, formal wedding. Your chorus will add a great deal to the occasion.
  4. you need to wear a very nice dress that will compliment your association. remember, everyone in the pews will be looking at you. what do you want them to see?
